Helpful Tips for Writing Thank You Notes

Writing Thank You Notes can seem to be a very daunting task, but these helpful tips will have you writing perfect thank-you's in no time at all!

Remember, a good Thank-You is generous, specific, prompt, succinct and personal.

Thank you notes should be sent within a week, strive to be prompt but remember late is always better than never!  If you do find yourself sending them out a bit later than you would like do not start the note with an apology.  Instead, always try to start and end on a positive note.

Similarly, do not start your note with the words ‘Thank you’.  Instead try:

  • I was so pleased to….
  • You were so nice to….
  • What a nice surprise….
  • It was a treat when we….

Be Specific!  Include the occasion you received it for and how you plan to use the gift (especially for monetary gifts).  If someone has complimented the gift, that is always a nice thing to mention to the giver as well. If a gift was mailed to you, first send an email to the giver letting them know the gift arrived safely and then follow up with a thank-you note a few days later. It is always nice to include the date in the top corner.  Strive for a minimum of three sentences.

Remember, ‘if it came in wrapping paper you should write a Thank-You note!’ (Margaret Shephard).

Christmas Wish List for a 3.5 Year Old

Gift Guide for 3.5 Year Old Girl I always love seeing holiday gift guides, so thought I'd give you a peek at what is on my 3.5 year old's Christmas list this year:

1. C has been asking for an umbrella for about 6 months now; and is also due for a new Raincoat.  We went with this adorable Field Flowers print from Hatley.

2. We LOVE Playmobil toys.  My mom still has all our childhood playmobil toys and they have held up really well.  They tend to be a bit more of an investment than some other toys but the quality is fantastic.  I got the large Grande Mansion on sale at the end of the year last year and this is C's big 'WANT' - I can't wait to see her face on Christmas morning!  They also recently came out with this Romantic Dollhouse version and it is highly adorable.

3. Hula Hoop - yes, really!

4. Dress-up Things.  She prefers Anna over Elsa, and I grabbed this dress for her, along with some fun long necklaces.

5. Sneaky Snacky Squirrel Game - Yay for new games!  I'm ready for a few new ones to join the rotation and have heard great things about this one.

6. Sticky Mosaics - We've already done a few of these and love them.  They are a great QUIET matching-type activity that I find also helps with fine-motor skills (win-win!).

7. Puzzle - Ditto to the games, yay for new ones!  This one has a few more pieces than her current favorites.

8. Guitar - She's obsessed with guitars, both real and pretend.  C is fairly petite so I went with a ukulele rather than a true guitar and think it will be the perfect size for her.

9. BOOKS! We love books!  Some of our current favorites are: The 'Bear Series' by Karma Wilson (repetition and rhyming), and the 'Mr. Magee' books by Chris van Dusen (more rhyming).

Stocking Stuffers

Bubble Bath (Frozen Themed, of course), a Slinky (I can't believe I'm encouraging her to play on the stairs, but I think she'll really enjoy it), some new undies & socks (a classic stocking gift in our house), a movie, nail polish & lipstick (aka Chapstick), a small my little pony figure, a new toothbrush (also Frozen themed), a warm base-layer for outdoor play, and her favorite candy (Smarties!).

She's also getting this eeBoo letters & numbers matching set from our ever-so-practical dog :)

Whats on your little one's wish list this year?

Font Friday :: Caferus

FONT FRIDAY

Featured Font : Caferus

caferus-font-friday-1

Caferus is today's font friday pick!  It is inspired by and designed for cafe & restaurant use but I think it would make a charming addition to a holiday card with a vintage feel, or a cowboy themed party for a little guy (or gal!).

Caferus was designed by Flavortype and includes a full layer family, 3 additional weights (which you can see a peek of here) PLUS additional ornaments for only $19!  You can pick it up through Creative Market HERE.

Flavortype has two other beautiful fonts called Heartwell (a brush-based calligraphy script, shown below) and Glowist (a unique textured serif), both of which have been on my wish list for a while!

As you may have assumed I have a thing for fonts. They come in all shapes and sizes with elaborate swashes and elegant details. The right font can easily make or break a design. Every Friday, I’ll share some of my favorites and recent purchases here, hoping to inspire a typography addiction in everyone.

I try to keep my font sheet updated with recent purchases, but if you see a font you love on here and would like to incorporate it into your designs just let me know!  Some posts may contain affiliate links.

Font Friday :: Oak & Ash

FONT FRIDAY

Featured Font : Oak & Ash

Today's font selection is called Oak & Ash, and was created by James Lafuente.  Oak & Ash is a hand drawn, all caps typeface with a handful of alternate characters & glyphs.  I can envision this font working beautifully for a fun rehearsal dinner BBQ invite or a birthday party for an adventurous little boy.

Like so many of the fonts I've featured in the past, Oak & Ash can be had for under $20, in fact - it's only $12!  At that price you may want to pick up it's sister (brother?) font Pearl District too!  Pearl District is a slightly condensed display face and I'm sure they would work beautifully together.
